Lymphstar Medical Study Grant Awarded

We received the exciting news that our associate in New Zealand, Desiree DeSpong, has been awarded a visiting fellowship for a research study at Flinders’ University in Adelaide, Australia.

Professor Neil Piller and Visiting Fellow Desiree DeSpong

It is for a pilot trial at the Department of Surgical Oncology Unit & Lymphedema Assessment Clinic. The study will be for the use of our Lymphstar / LET Instrument for breast, chest wall, and arm patients with clinically diagnosed lymphoedema secondary to breast cancer surgery. The study will commence in November and be completed by the end of 2010.

Desiree had been sending case studies to Professor Neil Piller, Department Head at the Flinders Clinic, to inform him of her success with the Lymphstar. Next, our company sponsored her attendance at the 22nd International Congress of Lymphology in Sydney, Australia last September. She met personally with him there and made an impact amongst the 360 world medical researchers.

A few months later Desiree was asked to submit a study proposal for a paid grant as a visiting fellow for a lymphedema study. They were looking for new concepts in the treatment of this painful and disfiguring condition. She submitted a proposal and won the fellowship. She attended the Australasia Lymphoedema Association Conference May 26 -29 where it was announced.

We are so thrilled to have this opportunity and immensely proud of Desiree. Now we must complete paperwork for the university ethics committee and the TGA – Australia's FDA. We ask that you keep us all in your thoughts, as this is a huge privilege and can impact many lives for the better.

Thank you for supporting our business in so many ways and we look forward to updating you on our success. At this time we will move forward with the ISO 13485 certification of Arcturus Star Products L.L.P. as a medical device establishment.

Now we can add the term "visiting research fellow" to her resume! She has just completed her New Zealand training class and has new approaches gleaned from her recent travels and work.

Please join us if you can. It will be an outstanding experience.
