Cortez Area and Attractions

Cotez is located only 10 miles from the entrance to Mesa Verde National Park, also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It was created in 1906 to protect some of the best preserved cliff dwellings in the world. Cliff Dwelings are structures built within caves and under outcropping in cliffs — including Cliff Palace (left), which is thought to be the largest cliff dwelling in North America.

The popular town of Durango, Colorado, the #1 tourist destination in Colorado, is 45 miles away. With art galleries, shopping, restaurants and tourist opportinites like the Narrow Gauge Railway, you can easily add a few days of recreation here.

(Cortez is a very small airport so flights from Denver are usually on 12 seat prop planes. While this location is only a few miles from our facility, we would reccomend Durango if you have issues with extremely small planes or get airsick easily.)

There is a Budget and an Enterprise car rental at the airport.

Albuquerque, New Mexico,

Largest nearby airport, so prices could be lower here, but it is a 4 hour drive to Cortez.
